Waterjet Cutting
An OMAX ProtoMAX abrasive waterjet: a 12 × 12 inch bed at 30,000 psi that cuts cold, so there is no heat-affected zone, no hardening at the edge and no discoloration — in metal, plastic, composite, glass or stone.

Common questions
Waterjet Cutting
Why waterjet instead of laser or plasma?
No heat. Laser and plasma both leave a heat-affected zone that hardens the edge and can distort thin parts. Waterjet cuts cold, so the edge machines and welds exactly like the parent material — and it cuts materials a laser will not, including glass, stone and thick composites.
How big a part can you cut?
The ProtoMAX bed is 12 by 12 inches, up to about an inch thick depending on material. It is a small-format machine and we use it that way — blanks, gaskets, prototypes, one-offs. Bigger sheets go to the waterjet and sheet-metal shops we work with every week, and we manage that for you.
What file do you need?
A dimensioned drawing, always — that is where the tolerances are. For the cut geometry, a DXF or DWG for flat parts or a STEP model for anything with more to it saves us redrawing it.

A dimensioned drawing — the tolerances live there — and the STEP model if the part has any complexity. Tell us the quantity — per release and per year if it repeats — the material and when you need it. Production program? Say so and we quote at volume. Urgent job? Call after you submit.
